I have always thought providers are under compensated. Bill for everything possible. And let the patient know they will be billed for portal messages. I think the volume may become a bit more reasonable.

Doctors should be paid for working overtime but not from the patients who already pay so much and receive at most mediocre health care for the most times. This would also increase the inequality of the care access. Would medicaid pay for MyChart messages? The insurance companies, the malpractice insurance companies, and the health care systems and the organizations that have imposed so many limitations and regulations on the doctors and have systematically driven the burn-out of the doctors and other health care providers should pay.

I agree, all insurances should be the ones reimbursing for medical advice on MyChart messages, just like they reimburse for in-person visits, telehealth visits, and scheduled phone appointments. It's also the company's job to set parameters and educate the population about what's appropriate for portal messaging. ie; simple clarifying questions, status updates, refills, etc. Things like that will unlikely be charged. Fundamentally the problem is a supply / demand issue. Not enough doctors, too many patients.
